This weekend, Huddersfield town centre was transformed into a vibrant celebration of pop culture, film, comics, gaming, cosplay and family fun, with thousands of people filling the streets to enjoy one of the biggest free events of the year.
Organised by Huddersfield BID, Get Your Geek On once again showed just what can be achieved when a town comes together to create something truly special.
From the moment you arrived, there was something happening around every corner.
Fans of wrestling were treated to high-energy live matches that had crowds cheering throughout the day. Families queued to meet incredible dinosaurs that roamed the streets, delighting children (and quite a few adults too!). Those looking for a challenge could test themselves on the impressive climbing wall, while film and TV fans were spoilt for choice with an incredible collection of iconic movie vehicles on display.
One of the biggest talking points had to be Harold the Humanoid Robot, who attracted crowds wherever he appeared. Watching people of all ages interact with Harold perfectly captured what the event was all about—bringing smiles, creating memories and inspiring curiosity.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Get Your Geek On without the amazing cosplay community.
The effort people put into their costumes was simply incredible. Everywhere you looked there were superheroes, movie villains, anime characters, sci-fi favourites and gaming legends wandering through the town centre. It created an atmosphere unlike any other, with visitors stopping for photos and conversations throughout the day. The creativity and enthusiasm on display added so much colour and excitement to the event.
Across the town centre, visitors could also browse a fantastic selection of independent stalls selling everything from artwork and collectibles to handmade crafts, comics, clothing and unique gifts. It was wonderful to see local traders alongside specialist exhibitors, giving visitors plenty to explore while supporting small businesses.
Events like this are about so much more than entertainment.
They bring people into the town, support local businesses, encourage families to spend quality time together and remind everyone just how much Huddersfield has to offer. Cafés, restaurants and shops were buzzing with visitors throughout the day, creating a real sense of energy across the whole town centre.
At Hudd Show Live, we’re passionate about celebrating everything that’s positive about our town, and Get Your Geek On is exactly the kind of event that deserves to be recognised. The atmosphere was welcoming, friendly and full of community spirit from start to finish.
A huge congratulations must go to Huddersfield BID, the organisers, volunteers, exhibitors, performers, security teams and everyone working behind the scenes who made such a fantastic day possible. Events of this scale take months of planning, and it certainly showed.
We were proud to be there broadcasting live throughout the day, chatting to visitors, meeting exhibitors and capturing some of the brilliant moments that made the event so memorable. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces as well as visitors who had travelled from across Yorkshire and beyond to experience everything the day had to offer.
